The High School of Velo created an event on Genocide, in the past and in the present, in art and in reality, which took place on Friday 13/06/2025 at 20:00 at the school. The main speaker was the award-winning director of ‘The Murderess’, Eva Nathena.

Eleni Kravariti the cordinator of Erasmus in Velo school issued the following press release:

"A special event took place at General Lyceum of Velo on Friday 13th of June.

The event was held in the school's courtyard and had the theme: "Femicide. Yesterday and Today, in Art and Reality".

The event took place in the framework of the European Erasmus+ research project entitled Gender NeutrAll, which has been implemented in our school for the last three years in collaboration with the Universities of Patras (Greece), Rouen (France) and Evora (Portugal) as well as with five other secondary schools, two from each participating country. The theme of the project is Gender Stereotypes in European societies and their deconstruction in the educational process.

The aim of the project was, from the outset, to inform teachers and pupils about the issue of Gender Stereotypes and to develop educational activities that could gradually contribute to their deconstruction.

The event was opened by the Coordinator of the programme, Ms Elena Karahojiti, Professor at the French University of Rouen, who presented the educational dimension of the central theme, Gender Stereotypes.

Next the psychologist Ms. Valsamidi Maria and the social Worker Ms. Paleologou Anastasia from the Center for Counseling Support of Women Victims of Violence of the Municipality of Corinth, gave a short presentation of the dimension of the phenomenon in our present reality and at the same time giving useful information about the help and outlets that the Center offers to abused women.

The keynote speaker was the award-winning director Eva Nathena, who was awarded for her film ‘The Murderess’, who captivated the audience by presenting through her unique artistic view how gender stereotypes were reflected in Papadiamantis' words and in his short story of the same name. In a unique way she shared personal experiences, but at the same time demonstrated how gender stereotypes have a historical background and historical continuity in Greek society.

The event was dedicated to our unjustly and savagely murdered student Garifalia Psarrakos, hoping that she will be one of the last victims of this heinous crime - Femicide
The guest of honour was her mother, Alexandra Makou, who addressed a touching message to the audience and closed the event in the best possible way.

Congratulations are due to the Erasmus team of our school and to our teachers Mrs. Eleni Kravariti and Mr. Konstantinos Antonopoulos, with the help and under the guidance of whom all the actions of the programme were implemented.

We thank the Municipality of Velo-Vocha, under whose auspices the event was held and the Deputy Mayor Mrs. Eleftheria Papaleka who willingly and substantially helped in the implementation of the event. We warmly thank Mrs. Aikaterini Papargiris and Papargiris catering equipment for the spontaneous sponsorship of water and frozen juices, which gave a very pleasant note of coolness to our event."
